Fly into Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP). Transfer to your hotel. Afternoon visit to Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Evening: Lighting ceremony at Mount Rushmore (seasonal).
Explore Badlands National Park (short drive from Rapid City). Scenic drive west into Wyoming. Overnight stay in a town near Yellowstone's East Entrance (e.g., Cody or Cooke City).
Enter Yellowstone through the East Entrance. Explore Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb Geyser Basin, and the Upper Geyser Basin (including Old Faithful). Overnight stay inside or near West Yellowstone.
Visit the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Lower and Upper Falls. Explore Hayden Valley for wildlife viewing (bison, elk, etc.). Visit the Mud Volcano area. Overnight stay inside or near West Yellowstone.
Explore Norris Geyser Basin (the hottest and most dynamic thermal area in Yellowstone). Visit Mammoth Hot Springs and the travertine terraces. Begin the drive back east towards South Dakota. Overnight stay in eastern Wyoming or western South Dakota.
Drive back to Rapid City for departure from RAP.
